Great Flights to Bangkok
The first thing you’ll need to know about Bangkok is how to get there. With interest in this vibrant city on the rise, many
cheap flights are available from the UK to Bangkok. For example, Bangkok flights from Heathrow Airport in London start from as little as around £350 depending on the time of year. If you will be flying to Bangkok from Syndey, Australia, flights are often available for about $800. The Don Mueang International Airport is the second largest in all of Asia, and more than 90 airlines fly into this busy hub of activity.
Currency Tips
The currency used in Bangkok is the Thai Baht. One U.S. Dollar is worth about 30.5 bahts, and one UK pound is worth about 48.65 bahts. Instead of carrying lots of cash, and worrying about the headache of having it stolen, you will find that ATMs are located throughout the city. Often, the ATMs will give you a better exchange rate for your money than if you were to trade cash with a private company. Also, as Bangkok is a growing city, many places accept all major credit cards.
When to Travel
Bangkok has the highest average temperature of any country in the world, with an average temperature of 32.7°C (90.9°F). Besides its high temperatures, it also has a pretty intense rainy season, with the wettest months typically being between the months of May and October. To avoid the hottest temperatures, and the heaviest rainfall it is generally best to travel between the months of November and April. Make sure to prevent hydration by drinking lots of purified water on your adventures around the city.
What to See
If you are a history buff and love seeing more of the countries religious and cultural roots, you shouldn’t pass up a visit to the Grand Palace. With its construction beginning way back in 1782, this masterfully constructed palace was for many years the home of various Thai rulers. Today it is still used to perform royal rituals. A highlight of the Grand Palace is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Although it cannot be photographed or video recorded, this is something every visitor to Bangkok must see.
If you want to see the city from an altitude of over 260 meters, you won’t want to pass up the State Tower located in downtown Bangkok. A variety of top rated restaurants are found with the Tower, and you won’t want to pass up the opportunity to have a relaxing drink and admire the city on the 63rd floor at the State Tower Sky Bar.
